Our Future sets out how Inishturk is planning ahead—thoughtfully, collaboratively and at a human pace—so that both community and landscape can continue to thrive for generations to come. Inishturk has always balanced on the edge of the world: a place of stone and sea wind, where currachs once traced the tides, where families tended sheep on the uplands, and where stories passed from one fire to the next. Though small, the island carries a long memory — of resilience, of hardship, and of a community that never wavered.
Now, guided by the Inishturk 2050 Vision, the community is shaping a future rooted in sustainability, culture, climate action and economic renewal. Working closely with regional and national partners, and supported by the energy of its diaspora, Inishturk is undertaking one of the most ambitious regeneration journeys of any island in Ireland. Inishturk carries the stories of thousands of years — and the hopes of generations yet to come. Its cliffs, fields, homes and harbour hold the memory of those who stayed, those who left, and those who continue to return. With housing, culture, infrastructure, energy, heritage, tourism and community life all moving forward together, the island is entering a new era: a living, creative, climate-smart island — connected, resilient, and full of possibility.
A Living Vision
Inishturk’s future isn’t something imagined. It is being built step by step, stone by stone, day by day. This space shares the living record of the island’s transformation: new homes taking shape, the harbour strengthened one survey at a time, solar batteries arriving on the boat, fibre lines being laid into the earth, meitheals bringing neighbours and diaspora together, and the small triumphs that matter as much as the big ones.
