Combined Age-Group Adventures
— Young Children to Teens

For young explorers, older children, and teens, Inishturk offers tailored experiences with beaches, wildlife, and gentle adventure.

Young Children (0–7)

Start with wildlife spotting on the ferry, enjoy the Children’s Playground and Scenic Football Pitch, and paddle at Tranuan Beach. Stop at the Inishturk Shop for ice-cream or snacks (Open: Monday–Saturday 13:00–15:00; Sunday and Bank Holidays 12:00–13:00). Spend time at Portdoon Swimming Harbor, and on select weekends (June–August), enjoy evening live music and drinks/pool at the Community Club.

Children (8–12)

Ferry wildlife spotting with dolphins, seabirds, and basking sharks, then explore Tranuan and Curraun Beaches, scenic pitch, and playground. Ice-cream or snack stop at the Inishturk Shop. Optional family-friendly sea angling and exploration of Portdoon lagoon and fort remains with a refreshing swim before the 5:15 PM ferry*.

Teens & Young Adults

Ferry crossing with wildlife, then explore the Mountain Common Loop or sea-cliffs. Swim at Portdoon Swimming Harbor or Curraun Beach. Optional Activator Poles Walking Experience (18+) or sea angling trip by booking with Skipper Jack Heanue @ (086)2029670, with sunset viewing along the Lough Coolaknick Loop. Evening live music on select weekends (June–August). Depart via 5:15 PM* ferry.

Day 4

Watch the sunrise at Tranuan Beach and enjoy lunch in the Caher View Restaurant, with the best view in Ireland for seasonal seafood and hearty pub fare before catching the 5:15 PM* ferry.

A little piece of island magic

Highly recommend a visit to Inishturk Island, off Mayo. This is a very special place with a welcoming community, beautiful landscape, nourishing walks, and fabulous swimming spots. We stayed for four nights in the community-owed and run Craggy Cottages which we highly recommend. Although a small island, the scenery changes every day with the weather and each day brings its own highlights. This was our first visit and will not be our last.

A real untouched piece of rugged Irish coastline.

There are cliffs as impressive as the Cliffs of Moher. A small country town feel. Semi challenging hiking. 360 degree views across Mayo and the Atlantic. And the best part is that very few tourists come here. It really should be a must visit on anyone’s bucket list.

A walk on the wild side

Spent three nights at Craggy Cottages (no 2) on Inishturk Island. The dry sunny weeks had come to an end and we got plenty of wind and rain but that only added to the experience. Mary picked us up from the ferry, after a somewhat lumpy 50 minute trip from Roonagh, and brought us to the cottages towards the west side of the island. The cottage is very new, spotlessly clean and it has been fitted out with all possible needs. Beds very comfortable, area very quiet and remote. Showers had incredible pressure! Heating perfect.
