Three-Night Explorer
— Slow Travel & Island Immersion
For a longer stay, immerse yourself in Inishturk’s landscapes, wildlife, and quiet trails. To reach Inishturk Island, start in the iconic Westport Town Centre and drive to Roonagh Pier or take the shuttle to Roonagh Pier for the ferry from the back entrance of SuperValu. The bus departs 45 minutes before each sailing and should be reserved at least 12 hours in advance by calling (087)2234012.
Day 1
Arrive and settle into your cottage. Spend the afternoon at Tranuan Beach or Portdoon Harbor, and take in the sunset from the viewpoint along the Lough Coolaknick Loop with a close-up look at the Tale of the Tongs monument. Evening on select weekends (June–August) offers live music and every night you may enjoy drinks and a game of pool at the Community Club.
Day 2
Adults may join the Activator Walking Experience in the morning. Stop at the Harbor Tea Rooms before heading to the Inishturk Shop for ice-cream or souvenirs (Open: Monday–Saturday 13:00– 15:00; Sunday and Bank Holidays 12:00–13:00). Dinner at the Community Club can be followed by evening music or a self-guided walk under the world-class Mayo Dark Skies.
Day 3
Explore quiet trails, spot wildflowers, and listen for corncrakes. Enjoy a swim at Curraun Beach. Evening activities include the Community Club for music/drinks on select weekends. Optional moon/star walk available.
Day 4
Watch the sunrise at Tranuan Beach and enjoy lunch in the Caher View Restaurant, with the best view in Ireland for seasonal seafood and hearty pub fare before catching the 5:15 PM* ferry.
